In today’s turbulent world, more and more people are looking for reflection, inspiration and a calmer pace of life. Important values in this regard are self-reflection, connection and care: for oneself, each other and the earth. Ancient, holistic worldviews, knowledge and healing traditions, such as shamanism, are becoming increasingly relevant, meaningful and interesting.
A shaman is a mediator and a healer. Important characteristics of shamanism are connectedness with nature and the cosmos. Animism is essential to this: the belief that everything that exists, such as objects, creatures, plants, weather systems, stones and even words, possesses a separate spiritual, living essence. This offers a contemporary opening for a search for other ways of living with more respect for the earth and in good balance with nature. There are artists who are fully engaged in this. They incorporate shamanic knowledge and rituals into their art and artistry. In the new year, they will be given a platform at De Vishal in Haarlem in the exhibitionWat bezielt ons?
